In 2025, Ocean City, Maryland celebrated its 150th anniversary.

For better understanding and appreciation of today’s Ocean City, it’s interesting to glance back at the town’s early beginnings, first as a small fishing village. Ā 

Here’s a snapshot of Ocean City’s major milestones through the years.  

1875:Ā Atlantic Hotel opened and widely considered Ocean City’s founding dateĀ 

1878:Ā U.S. Life-Saving Service set up a station in the areaĀ 

1891:Ā Ocean City Life-Saving Station (second station) was completedĀ 

1900:Ā Initial wooden walkway was constructedĀ 

1933:Ā Powerful storm helped form the Ocean City Inlet Ā 

2025:Ā Ocean City, Maryland celebrated turning 150 years oldĀ 

Through the years, the Ocean City Boardwalk has been expanded and undergone renovations, and today Ocean City thrives as a favorite coastal destination.
