Meet Cheswick the Crab, Maryland’s traffic safety mascot!
Cheswick’s friendly crab persona teaches Maryland residents and visitors to Walk Smart, Drive Smart and Bike Smart while visiting Ocean City’s beaches but also every day — no matter where their travels take them. Cheswick the Crab is named in honor of Matthew Cheswick, a 22-year-old college student who was struck and killed by an impaired driver while walking along Coastal Highway in 2012.
The resources on this page can be used to help educate students on the importance of walking, bicycling and riding in the car safely.
