Safety Tips for Kids at Amusement Parks

A vacation to Ocean City is guaranteed to be jam packed with fun! There is so much to do—the ocean, water activities, attractions and more! Amusement parks are just one of the many fun things you can do with your family while visiting. Beachside amusement parks are full of rides and activities, but you may be concerned with safety.

The amusement parks in Ocean City want to keep you and your children safe so that you can feel free to enjoy your time. However, there may be a few things to consider when planning a trip to an amusement park with the kids. When spending the day at a park, here are a few precautions to keep in mind so that your children are having fun and being safe.

Stay with Your Kids or Let Them Go?

In our modern age, most parents are reluctant to let children out of their site even at a kid-friendly amusement park. However, some of the parks, such as the Jolly Roger Splash Mountain Water Park will allow parents to let their children enter the park alone. Some parents may choose to do this because everyone is charged for park entry even if you do not plan to go on the water rides (the amusement park section has no entry fee since everything is on a pay-by-the-ride basis). If you decide to do this, drop your kids at the front gate. Then instruct your kids to meet you at the exact same location at a specific time. Make sure they know how important it is to be timely. However, smaller children should always have a parent or guardian with them.

What to Do if You Get Separated

Train your children to know what they should do if separated from you at an amusement park. Point out the uniform of someone who works at the park so they will be able to identify someone who can help rather than just go up to a stranger.  With older kids, you can often simply make sure everyone has a park map and knows where and when to meet up if you get separated. Be sure to instruct your children not to go off with strangers.

Age-Appropriate Rides

Make sure that you check out minimum height restrictions before going to an amusement park. Many parks have these restrictions listed on their websites. It would be a shame to find out the day you go that your child is too short to ride anything.

Even if your child is tall enough to ride a ride, does that mean they should? Sometimes we want to push our kids to try new things, but this may result in scaring them more than empowering them. It’s okay to encourage your children to be brave, but if they are insistent they don’t want to ride don’t force them.

Explore Ocean City Beyond the Boardwalk

While Ocean City’s award-winning boardwalk is a “must” on your list of vacation activities, don’t be afraid to venture off the boards and enjoy the rest of OC! Whether you are on the bayside, North or West Ocean City or even Midtown, your experience will be filled with fun and memories.

North Ocean City

This area begins 91st Street and continues on to the Delaware border at 146th Street. The northside area has just as much to do, with a little more peace and quiet. Your time here will be filled with all the fun and memories you expect from an OC vacation.

Spend a Day at a Park in North Ocean City

Ocean City has a number of parks with all types of activities available, and many of these parks are located in North Ocean City. Northside Park is the perfect place for a jog, bike ride and other family fun. It is also the site of several free events throughout the year such as: seasonal movie nights, Sundaes in the Park, July 4th Concert and Fireworks and the Winterfest of Lights.

West Ocean City

Located just over the U.S. 50 Bridge across the bay from the Boardwalk, West Ocean City is one of the fastest growing areas of Worcester County. Large homes and new businesses now take the space of what once was empty farmland. Old beach cottages have been replaced by beautiful town homes and marinas with sport-fishing yachts and charter excursions. You can also find exciting golf opportunities.

Things to Do in West Ocean City

A central business district has an eclectic mix of hotels, shops and restaurants, and a variety of special events taking place throughout the year. Tons of activities and accommodations, combined with the friendly community of dedicated residents, puts West Ocean City at the forefront of change and development in the region.
