About Runaway Bride Month in Berlin
Twenty years ago, the film “Runaway Bride” hit box offices across the country. Did you know that the film, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, was filmed in Berlin? To celebrate during the month of August, Berlin will host “Runaway Bride”-themed events throughout the town.
Once named “America’s coolest small town,” Berlin will decorate the town with wedding-themed décor in storefront windows and shops that were seen in the film. Downtown shops will also feature “Runaway Bride” trivia, and if you answer 10 or more questions correctly, you will be entered in a giveaway to stay at the historic Atlantic Hotel.
Runaway Bride Month Activities
Visit the Berlin visitors center to take a selfie with life-size cutouts of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
Every Monday in August, take a free guided walking tour of Berlin. Along the way, you can see and learn about the locations where the movie scenes were filmed. Tours last 45 minutes.
The film “Runaway Bride” will be shown on Saturday, Aug. 24 on Jefferson Street. The free showing of the film will also include a “Runaway Bride” costume contest, sponsored by the Berlin Arts and Entertainment Committee. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
