The ceremony will also include a traditional wreath-laying tribute.\n—\nPress Release: \nOcean City to Honor Fallen Heroes During Memorial Day Ceremony\nOcean City, MD – (May 11, 2026): The Town of Ocean City will honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country during a Memorial Day Ceremony on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the Firefighters Memorial at North Division Street and the Boardwalk.\nThis year’s ceremony will feature remarks from Mayor Rick Meehan and Brigadier General Joed Carbonell-López, Commander of the 175th Wing of the Maryland Air National Guard. Their remarks will reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States.\nA highlight of the program will include two skydivers from Skydive OC, who will open the ceremony by parachuting from approximately 5,000 feet while delivering the American flag. The event will also feature a performance by the 229th Maryland Army National Guard Band, a woodwind ensemble delivering patriotic music throughout the ceremony. The National Guard will also have a vehicle display on-site.\nAdding to the experience, the traditional wreath-laying ceremony will include a moving tribute from uniformed representatives of each branch of the U.S. military. Each service member will carry and place a flowered wreath in front of their respective military insignia, honoring those from their branch who gave their lives in defense of our nation.\n“Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our nation,” said Mayor Rick Meehan. “As a community, we gather not only to honor their courage and dedication, but to ensure their legacy is never forgotten.
